Most hotel software is written by a software company and sold to hotels. This was written inside a hotel group, on its own floors, and the first customers are its own front desks. The people who ask for a feature are the people who stand at the counter, and the sentence they said is usually in the code's own comments.
Who
The Orion Group of Hotels owns and manages hotels in India under the Asar name and others; the first two on this system are in New Delhi. The product's own name is Asar, after the hotels it was first run in.
How it is built
- Every change is a numbered migration with a sentence for a name — a full room is a question for the desk, not a wall; the OTA is who we collect from, not who the invoice is made out to — and a test suite that rolls back. There are several hundred of each.
- The manual is written in the same file as the feature it explains, so it cannot drift.
- Every picture on this site is taken by a script from the running product and fails if the screen has moved.
- Nothing on this site is a claim without a source: the numbers page says where each one comes from.
What we will not say
That we have hundreds of chains in fifty countries. We have a group of twenty properties, two of them trading on this today, and a public record of what shipped when. That is the honest size of it, and the reason the rest of this site can be believed.
