Bank and cash
The hotel has bank accounts and the till has a float; the statement is read into the books and matched line by line; the cash position is one screen.
Every rupee that reached the books through a tender landed on a ledger called "Bank account", with no bank behind it. A hotel has two or three: the current account the collections reach, the one the vendors are paid from, the petty cash the housekeeper holds.
Accounts
Each bank account is a ledger with a bank behind it — the IFSC, the number, the signatories. The till has a float per cashier shift, and petty cash is a book with a custodian.
The statement is read
The bank's statement is imported into the account's shadow and matched to the book line by line — automatically where the reference or the amount and date agree, by hand where they do not. The reconciliation statement is the auditor's: book balance, plus what the bank has not seen, less what the book has not seen, equals the bank.
The cash position is one screen
What is in each bank, what leaves this week (the payment run, the TDS challan, the GST due), what comes in (the receivables due, the gateway payouts, the OTA settlements), and whether the seventh can be met. Seven screens and a calculator became one.
