Gateway and OTA settlements
The gateway pays out net and the difference is the fee; the channel remits what it collected and takes its cut — both matched booking by booking against the statement.
A guest pays ₹10,000 by card on the booking page. Two days later the gateway pays the hotel ₹9,764. MakeMyTrip collects ₹8,400 from a guest and three weeks later pays ₹6,720 for the fortnight — forty bookings on one statement. Until the books could read those statements, the ₹10,000 sat on the card receivable for ever and the fee was nowhere.
The gateway
Each payout is matched to the payments it settles; the difference is the fee and the GST on it, posted against the gateway's control account. An unmatched payout is a line on the screen, not a mystery on the bank statement.
The channel
The OTA's statement is read line by line — each booking gross, commission, tax on the commission, net — and matched to the invoices on the OTA's account. A booking on the statement the hotel does not have, or a commission that differs from what the channel said at booking, is an exception with the booking's number on it.
In the cash position
Both feed the forecast: what the gateway will pay out this week and what the channel owes for the fortnight are lines in "what comes in".
