A day is closed only after it has ended

The business date is the trap every hotel system falls into; this one refuses to close a day before the hotel's midnight, and can undo the last close.

Every hotel keeps its own business date, and it is not the calendar's: the day ends when the hotel says it ends, in the hotel's own time zone. A stay cannot be moved behind it, a posting cannot land in it once it is closed, and the central desk booking into the hotel from another city respects it.

The refusal

An audit run before the day has ended is refused with a sentence: the day is not over. The rule was written after a day was closed early in a live hotel and every posting on it was a night nobody had slept yet.

Reversing

The last audit for a hotel can be reversed by the administrator: what it posted is reversed, the date moves back, and the log says who did it and why. Then it is run again on the right facts. It has been used for real, on a live hotel, on a day that was closed on the wrong date.

The audit could not finish its own day

Two breaks under one symptom — a timer that never fired and an audit that could not complete — were found together and fixed together; since then a hotel whose audit has not run is reported, not silent.
